The Book Stork Has Arrived for Ellis Vidler!

When a thug attacks Claire Spencer, owner of a charming Williamsburg Christmas shop, she hires security consultant Ben Riley to find out why.

While dodging a speeding car, ducking bullets, and escaping from murky swamp waters, proper Claire and freewheeling loner Riley struggle against their powerful chemistry. But if she’s picket fences, he’s barbed wire.

Ellis, have a glass of virtual champagne tell us about your new arrival!

Years ago I visited an enchanting Christmas shop in Rotenberg, Germany. One day Claire Spencer popped into my head as the perfect owner. Then came danger, and with it,  Riley. 🙂

What did you feed your muse during the book’s development?

Coffee, by the gallon, with chocolate as an occasional consolation or reward (it’s multifunctional).

Did you experience any complications during the growth of this book?

Not with the story, at least not beyond the usual revisions, but agents thought it didn’t fit into romance or suspense, so it languished for quite awhile.

What is your favorite feature of this book (ie. character, setting, plot, etc) and why?

The characters, definitely. I love Claire, “the velvet sheathing the steel demurely” to quote Stephen Vincent Benet’s “Portrait of a Southern Lady.” And of course Riley. I have to fall in love with my characters to make them work.

Describe the perfect reader for this book.

Someone who enjoys action, danger—vicariously of course—and wants to fall in love along with the characters. It’s been described as a can’t-put-down page-turner, which really pleases me.

Are you expecting any more books (wink, wink)?

Oh, yes. I’m working on one with a touch of paranormal that’s set on a fictitious island off Charleston and another that features characters from Haunting Refrain and Cold Comfort. At least one of them will be out next year.

Thanks Ellis! We wish you much joy (and lots of sales!)

Congrats on the new release. I’m working through a nonfiction list right now. I’m writing your title down for my future list. I love the detail about the shop arriving before the characters. Good luck.

Thanks, Stacy. Usually my characters are here long before anything else, but that was a wonderful shop and I really wanted to use it somewhere. Then Claire walked in, and I knew it was hers. Fun to do.
