The sinful and crispy virtual munchie on today’s menu is Deep Fried Pepperoni, a Halifax delicacy. Yes, it’s true, Haligonians have a thing for deep-fried, unhealthy things, bless their little hearts. Deep Fried Pepperoni should always be served with sweet honey mustard dipping sauce and an ice cold beer. All I can say is, it’s a good thing for my arteries that this is only virtual food.

A Few Dead Men – Setting: The Bay of Fundy

The Bay of Fundy is the main body of water along the western shore of Nova Scotia, and is famous for having the highest tides on the world (53 feet). A hundred billion tonnes of seawater flows in and out of the Bay of Fundy twice a day – more water than the combined flow of all rivers of the world’s fresh water.

Here’s a time lapse video showing the famous tides.

Excerpt: A Few Dead Men

“Darcy walked toward a bluff that sloped downward. There was a path, which she followed down to a rocky beach.

The tide was out, so she took off her socks and shoes and walked straight ahead onto the flat expanse of squishy red mud. The mud was freezing, but felt good on her feet. She wiggled her toes and drew in great gulps of salty wet air, wandering around until the Fundy tide chased her back to shore.

As she searched for the path that led to the top of the bluff she noticed a set of footprints in the muck that didn’t belong to her. Big and deep, made by a man’s boots. She hadn’t noticed them earlier. She looked around, but couldn’t see anybody. The feeling that she was being watched became overpowering.”
